Pressing reset
Should I press the reset button on my router, telephone system or other device?
The short answer is if you have to ask the question, the answer is no.
Pressing the reset button, or on some equipment the factory reset button, restores the factory default configuration, which means the equipment is put back in the state it was in when it left the factory. In order for your router, telephone system or other equipment to work in the way you need it to work, it will have been configured by your supplier. That configuration will be unique to you. Restoring the factory default configuration will mean your unique configuration will be lost. Whatever problems you were having that lead you to wonder if pressing reset might help will just get worse if you press the reset button.
